Haystrom Farm

haystrom “Cooking the food you love and loving the food you cook” is more than Jim Hayward’s motto – it’s a way of life. Farming is Jim’s third career, but his background in classic French cuisine and banking only contributes to his success on his 5-acre fruit and vegetable plot. He delights in reintroducing old and obscure varieties of produce: Bulgarian carrot chili peppers, jelly melons, Mandoria cucumbers and bull’s blood beets are names that roll off the tongue and onto the fork – and Jim gladly shares how to cook each one!

Intaba Mountains

intaba Intaba means mountain in Zulu (one of three dialects in South Africa). Ninety percent of all the dried fruit come from either around Cape Town or near the Game Parks near Pretoria. As result of the dry heat (no humidity) the various dried fruits are naturally sun dried. There is nothing added e.g. no pesticides; no sugar added – just dried in the sun for 4 to 5 days. This method brings out the natural juices and sugar. Fruits include: mango, mini pineapple, cherries, peaches, Cape gooseberries, sultanas, pears, black plums, yellow nectarines. And from Quebec wild blueberries and cranberries. The nuts are raw and unsalted and of a very high quality from South Africa and South America: almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews, Brazil nuts, pistachios. The companies and farmers that we deal with are “Fair Trade” companies.

Samsara Fields

Samsara Fields Samsara Fields was conceived by JP Gural and So Young Lee from 2010, after their global research journey conducted in 2008 – 2009, as a response to our planet’s peril. They both experienced many issues: poverty, displacement, refugees, the world food crisis, slums, garbage dump communities, post-conflict, legacies of war, poverty, sprawling urbanisation, globalisation, development, and global climate change. From their research, they found organic living to be not an alternative lifestyle choice but an important direction if humanity wants to survive an impending environmental collapse. One of the key ingredients for sustainable living is good quality, locally-produced food.An organic choice protects the Earth and our Health.

Rebel With A Garden

Rebel With A Garden is a backyard-based nanofarm located in Scarborough, close to Kennedy Subway.

It includes two neighboring backyards, used for growing vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers, seeds and plants. We also sell garden tools, accessories and supplies.

We mostly grow hard to find vegetables and fruits like Sorrel, Purslane, Red Currants and Paw Paw fruits.

While our small size giving us flexibility to test and try new things, it makes us get the optimal efficiency with ultra intensive methods like interplanting, succession planting and vertical gardening.

With the enthusiastic support we got from our farmers market customers, we are coming this year with many new varieties.
